Repeated problem with prints

Hi, I would like to seek some guidance and advice on a printing issue which I faced. I made several prints so far but the print failure so far, i have the suspicion that something might be wrong with my settings.

I’ve attached images showing print failures when the print reaches towards the top of the model. Appreciate if anyone is able to shed some light on how the prints have gone wrong.

Did this just start? How long have you had your MK3 and how many prints have been successful?
How does the test calibration prints look?
Is this the same filament you've been using or did you switch to a new batch?

I'm new myself, but have been picking things up quickly. It seems that the lower portion of both prints are mostly all right. I've narrowed one of my issues to a possible bad batch of filament. You're using two different colors, are they of the same type and manufacturer?

I'm going to guess your extruder motor started to get hot, transferred that heat to the extruder gears, the filament started to get warm and soft, and finally you started to get extruder failures. That's a big leap, but essentially your machine stopped extruding. At roughly the same time into a long print.

What temp is your nozzle for these prints? What temp is the bed?

Printed quite a fair bit already, about 10 successful prints but the previous models are smaller. This model is one of the longer prints of about 16 hours.

Nozzle temp is set at 210
Bed Temp at 60

Sounds possible that the temperature of the extruder gears may be the problem, since I have seen and resolved quite a number jams at the extruder with a clump or distorted filament. In this case, how do I bring down the temperature of the extruder motor/gears or resolve the problem?

Re: Repeated problem with prints

I believe it does look like your having an extrusion issue. I have this happen, on occasion, as well. There are several different situations which have lead to my prints have the same issue. In some cases I was not able to keep up with the extrusion speed which I adjust for using printing temp and speed. For me this normally shows itself when I have large amounts of infill so I don't think this is the issue in your case. I have also had issues where warping would disrupt the extrusion causing a blob to form, on the nozzle tip, which would disrupt the extrusion. In these cases it normally affected the support and infill extrusion the worst, leaving a area where the perimeters contracted, giving the appearance of the part shrinking for a few layers, and leaving an weak point in the overall print. In these cases addressing the warping also addressed my extrusion issues. The third type of situation I have seen similar results is when dealing with soft filament and well used extruder springs. These situations I have normally addressed by increasing the spring tension on my extruder idler.

Re: Repeated problem with prints

Try increasing your nozzle temp to 215, slow your printing speed down to 80%, and lower your bed temp down to 40 or 50 after the first layer.
