Quality print question ...

Hello everyone,

I am new in this forum; I assembled the MK3s and launch a couple of printed parts... But until then I am not pretty happy with the quality;

Like that; PETG with MK3s original (0.07)

(With the original PLA and with other ABS sample, it's same same)

Was I expected too much in term of quality ? Have you counsels to give ?

Thank you all

Have a nice day,

KR,

Yannick

I tried the tower with Prusa PLA...

What do you think? To what could it be related ?

RE: Quality print question ...

Hi Yannick - without being at the printer, it is sometimes difficult to say exactly what is causing an issue; but at first glance I'd say your belts are loose. It could also be the drive gears are not properly set on the motor shafts.

For the gears, the set screws need to be tightened in order:  Flat First.  Loosen both set screws until the gear is free to spin on the shaft. Then align the flat on the motor shaft so it is under one of the set screws. Slowly tighten that set screw while ensuring the screw tip fully engages the flat, and is perpendicular; tighten to spec.  Once the flat is tight, then tighten the jam set screw to spec; this locks the gear in place.

Belt tension can be measured a couple of ways, but deflection is easiest and most reliable. GT2 belts need a minimum of 2 lbs tension, and the motor shaft bearings are rated about 11 lbs at 1/2", max. To get around 7.5 lb tension on the belts, the belts should deflect 15/64" when 8 ounces force is applied to the belt face. You can hang a scale calibration or fishing weight on a belt, or use a spring scale with ounce resolution.
