Problem with ABS printing
Hi all!
I'm new in printing and got a MK3 a month ago.
I have printed some stuff with the original silver PLA from the printer, got one problem but managed to print some models.
So I bought some ABS filament to try printing a bigger object for my kid.
This one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2688775 (LEGO jail).
Tried 2 times but got 2 times a problem. See attachments.
As you see in the attachment, it's clear that the both sides don't wtick well (there is a little curve on both side)
First try went further in the building and starts to develop the extruder blob problem.
Second try went less far in the building but has gone a bigger extruder blob problem... I need to clean it !
Is it a temperature problem (I didn't change the default temperature problem) ?
The first layer is good (I think), but later in the process, the both sides of the object seem to come off (see the curves)
Thank you for your advices, my kid asks me every day when the jail will come out 😀
Re: Problem with ABS printing
If you have read the manual (Chapter 11), ABS is not the easiest material to start with. Disadvantages: Needs a warm room or enclosure otherwise you get a problem with warping.
Why not use PLA or PETG, so your children do not have to wait 😀
Bear MK3 with Bondtech extruder
Re: Problem with ABS printing
Because I like difficulties! 😀 ...and you are right, I didn't remember chapter 11 (but I read it)
Right now it's quite hot in the room because I'm at level 2 of my home and lots of sun right now.
I guess I need to practice my skill with settings a bit more 🙂
And also because I heard ABS was the closest material as LEGO offers.
But will definitely try with PLA to see if there is also some problems.
Still need more advices definitely.

As I like to build things, the tutorial on enclosure with MK3 excites me 🙂
Re: Problem with ABS printing
I share RHDreambox opinion PETG would be much much better choice.
If you persist with ABS, some basic advices :
Your print surface need to well cleaned
To avoid corners lifting use brim. 5 mm would be fine.
With PLA you do not need to vary much temperature according to the object size. With ABS you do not have cooling and temperatures are much higher so you need to adapt extruder/bed temperature to object size otherwise you are getting deformed and melted results.
Cracks ... higher you go with you objects, more chances that you will get objects cracking. here enclosures get interesting.

Thanks for the tips nenad! Sounds like I should put ABS on side for the moment 🙂
Will clean my nozzle first and then try with PETG and PLA for my next printing !
But definitely want to build the IKEA enclosure 😀
