PolyTerra Nightmares
Been having an insanely difficult time getting black polyterra to adhere.
I've had the Printer for 1.5 or so and had very few issues with Prusament, I grabbed some matte black polyTerra since it was available locally. It's been trouble since the start, I began to print it at 210/80 for first layer and 190/65 for second layer advice I got on reddit and that helped quite a bit. It has always left crazy stains on the sheet however.
I'm now on the second roll of PolyTerra and it's just been a total nightmare, I can't get anything to stick, after 4-5 layers it just tosses right off. I've done all of the usual things.
- 90ISO to clean the sheets - something I've always done after any print
- Tried hot soapy water, which I've done infrequently but now have tried almost every print
- Gave Acetone a shot, this actually worked great during the first roll, but now it seems to do nothing (possible I've overdone it? don't know if I've damaged the sheet)
- Tried raising the temp for the bed in 5 degree increments up to 100.
nothing seems to do the trick - I would love any advice, I just can't get this stuff to stick
RE: PolyTerra Nightmares
Its one of my favourite filaments. I've used loads of the charcoal black, army brown, the white, even half a roll of Candy. I don't have any issues with it sticking to the bed. My original smooth sheet bought with my MK3 (non s) so years old now.
Just the usual making sure the print surface is clean and free from all contaminants like skin oils etc and a properly dialled in live Z. I never use IPA, just dish detergent with really really hot water and scrubbed with paper towels. Then avoid touching the bed again to stop skin oils getting on there. Longer you can manage to not touch it the longer you can go between cleanings.
Bed temp is 53 on my profiles, print temp is 230 (I have a nozzle X so need it a bit hotter).
I've never had to use acetone on my sheet in all this time either.
Whats your first layer look like ? Care to post a pic ?
RE: PolyTerra Nightmares
yup I did post some - I'm glad youre finding success with it! I did try running the new spool at the standard PLA temps and it seems much better? It's still about 50/50 whether the first layer goes down hitch free though. I think my Live Z is in good shape, the starter strip is a nice flattened oval
RE: PolyTerra Nightmares
No the pictures you posted don't include the bottom layer of a live z calibration print. Basically a 1 layer high square or similar that is printed to dial in the correct live z. The 2 most common reasons for filament not sticking are dirty bed which you say you have ruled out and an incorrect live z.
Printing off something like https://www.printables.com/model/105404-calibration-strip-for-simple-live-zfirst-layer-cal is the best way to dial in your height. Once peeled off it should be a solid sheet of plastic. None of the pics posted so far are useful in assessing live z unfortunately.
