PLA warping at edge/corner.

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to print a model of a building.
I've tried PLA and mat PLA, both give the same problem (the overal finish for mat PLA is much nicer!).

There is some clear warping at the corners.
The model in the pictures is printed in mat PLA @ 225°/45°, speed of 50% with a hardened nozzle of 0.4 mm.
In the first picture the corner warped the most.
In topview the angle of that corner is 71°.

The stairs (second picture) have an angle of 109° in topview and do not warp.

I also noticed on other models that corners of 90° also warp a little bit, but not as severe.

Any ideas what could be causing this warping? And any suggestions on how to improve it?

Thank you in advance, Lukas.

RE: PLA warping at edge/corner.

Warping, in the form of pulling away from the plate, in general, can be caused by bed adhesion or draft/cooling issues.

In looking at your print, it looks like it separated right at the stress point of the corner.

I would first make sure that your print surface is Really Most Sincerely clean and that your Z is properly calibrated.

If it still tends to separate, I would suggest a small amount of glue stick or maybe something like the Layerneer Bed Weld adhesive to help it stick and stay.  (They ought to give me a commission!)  😉

Glue stick,

bed on 60 degrees or higher,

A big brim attach to model 6 or 8 lines.

Keep wind of model.

@peter-m26

Thank you, I will give it a try. The brim is something I didn't think of, but it makes a lot of sense.

@jsw

Thank you for the advice!

The bed was really clean, I just cleaned it with soup and hot water, let it dry completely and then wiped it with a cleaning towel for subscription glasses. The Z was calibrated as far as I can tell.

I just ordered some Layerneer Bed Weld and placed your name in the comment 😀 .

I'll let you know the outcome.

@l-vaes88

If you are going to use a Brim, make sure Elephants Foot Compensation is off, or your brim will not connect properly to your model!
