Noob with question on PrusaSlicer
Hi everyone -
Brand new to 3D printing so sorry if this is a dumb question (sounds dumb to me). I imported a .stl file into the PrusaSlicer, it is for an oil catch can bracket: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2740075 It is "standing"vertically (perpendicular) on the Platter. Is this the way it is intended to be sliced and printed or am I supposed to lay it flat on the top and print ?
Thanks!
Rich
RE: Noob with question on PrusaSlicer
Looking at that particular object it should be rotated so the 'figure 8' like hole are upwards. Trying to print in that orientation will fail unless support is turned on. Support on that would be lots of material and isnt needed to that extent if turned around.
On the right hand side of the plater (the window where your models get placed) are some tool icons. One of them is place to bed. If you select your model and then select the tool the model will look a bit like its shrink wrapped. All the lighter areas are faces that can be selected and will automatically get placed on the bed if you click them. Click on a few and see the effect it has. You will get how it works pretty quickly.
Find the flatest one that makes it sit like you want. Once upright I think there one area that sticks out at 90 degrees that will need support for definite. Without downloading it and slicing I cant tell if any other parts will also need support.
Then you can slice, take a look at the layers and make sure that theres a big enough area on the first layer for bed adhesion, check for overhangs etc and then decide if any areas need support (turn on detect bridging perimeters under Print Settings>layers and perimeters, need to be in advanced or expert mode to see the setting). That way any bridging or sever overhands will be more apparent as the colour coding of the sliced layers will show in blue.
ps at the bottom of the forum is a whole section for Prusa Slicer related questions.
RE: Noob with question on PrusaSlicer
Thank you for your help. Common sense (and searches) said it should be printed flat. I was just unsure why the file had it on its side.
With your kindness and excellent advice, it printed out great.
Thanks again!
