newbie, terrible prints - clueless whats wrong
Hey folks,
I'm having trouble with my newly-built MK3: It goes through all the calibration steps a-ok, but I had a lot of trouble getting the first-layer calibration to look good (ended up with a value of 135 which seems a little high and still doesn't look wonderful).
Now trying to print the "bat" example, and its failing almost immediately on first layer - seems to be a combination of not sticking to bed correctly and there being a lot of gaps between the lines (attached).
Printer is configured stock, using included PLA.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Replying to myself here.
I just found this post: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting-f62/resolved-batman-logo-first-print-fail--t17618.html
which seems *very* similar to what I'm seeing. Looks like I may have my z-offset way too high (I'm at -135, that post talks about being up in the 700-800 range) - gonna try lowering it down a lot more...
Re: newbie, terrible prints - clueless whats wrong
me again 😉
just tried -750 offset - WAY better. Looks like thats my problem.
Time to tune..

And you bought a 3D Printer....
there is no hope for you Duncan! 😯
Seriously, I hope your changes reap benefits...
I was going to suggest lowering your Live Z
but your sub conscience got there first...
Have you seen this thread?

might help you improve the first layer!

Thanks for the tip Joan! - I'll def. follow that thread to fine-tune my first-layer height.
Following up - my very first print just finished, and while not perfect I think it's pretty good for out-of-the-box settings:
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
