New kit build: Power panic doesn't do anything?
Built my i3 mk3 kit (dating from mid December 2018) up this past week and have started doing some testing, and I did update the firmware on the 10th. Great results from the first couple short prints, but I went to do a 5.5h high detail print at 50 micron layer height, and a couple hours into it, it stopped extruding because of the PLA jamming in the PTFE inside the hotend. Pulled it, removed the blockage, applied more thermal paste to the heat break interface, applied a piece of kapton tape to the bottom of the PTFE for just a bit more insulation, problem seemed solved.
Got about an hour into the same print and had to go to sleep, so I decided to test the power panic feature, so I just flipped the switch on the power supply. The next morning I turn it on and....... nothing is different from a regular boot? The nozzle is still hovering right next to the partial print, but I couldn't find any options to resume or recover in any way in the menu. The power panic cable is properly connected.
It may not be an issue that matters immediately, but being able to recover from a real power failure is an important feature... so have I assumed something wrong or should that test have worked?

For some reason power panic doesnt work if switch3d off. At printer. Try turning off at wall

IIRC the power panic board senses across the actual socket power pins BEFORE the power switch.
Turning switch off thus does not interrupt what the panic board sees. That's why you can't test it via the power switch.
That's probably good, because otherwise, any normal power down would be interpreted as a power panic

Wouldn't that be fixed by just setting a bit while it was printing, so that if it was powered down mid-print then it would be a panic and if it was idling, preheating, etc. then it would just be a normal power down?
In any case, I guess I have my answer. For these intentional power downs mid print, there's always just pausing. 😉

Correct. Most of the time you also want to have the bed heated. My powder coated sheet for example need to stay at 60 for PLA. Otherwise the part just pops of the build plate once cooled.
