MK3S print colour

So... with the new, kind of weird, switch-based optical sensor for the mk3s (it looks like it's basically a plastic 'switch' that covers the optical sensor, making the covering/uncovering the cue to signal a filament runout), does that mean we no longer have to print the extruder in black? Would we JUST need to print the switch part in black?

Re: MK3S print colour

I don't have a MK3S but looking at the diagrams on github I would guess that the extruder body can be printed in any colour/transparency you like now. The IR detector is self contained and only the lever must be opaque to IR signals. It will depend on the strength of the IR beam and the precise wavelength used. Worth experimenting if/when you get a MK3S, and let us know what you find!

I'll be printing the levers in black, but all the rest in transparent just to see how it goes. I've ordered, and a mk3s upgrade has shipped, so we'll see when it arrives. Now to print all the new parts. 🙂

It makes fully sense to print the extruder in transparent. You could easier see if something breaks/deforms and if the cooling area is still clean.
