Loving it so far

Finally got my new Mk3S+ assembled and printing.  Made a couple mistakes like putting the Y-carriage on backwards so the heat bed holes wouldn’t line up.  I couldn’t get the cables routed very neatly in the Einsy box.  But it works and the prints all look good so far.

It came with grease and the packing tip so I used it to pack the bearings.  The Mk3 instructions say don’t pack until doing maintenance.  The mini instructions say pack at assembly but they don’t say to soak in IPA so I didn’t.  I noticed when I squeezed in the grease most if not all the thin factory oil was pushed out the end of the bearing followed by a bunch of air and then the grease.  It seems despite the crude look of the tip, it does well in displacing the oil and air with grease.  Only issue was I ran out of grease with one bearing to go - the single x axis bearing.  We’ll see how they hold up over time.

I initially put the y-axis on backwards too but I did a good job on the wiring. 😀 I'm glad I didn't lubricate the bearings since they were spitting a little lube on the heat bed during printing as they were. The bearings lube is more oily than greasy because apparently grease will trap dirt and increase wear in the bearings.

I think you will like it.

The MK3 series is a great printer and I've had very good luck with it.

When I first got mine, I was very impressed with the print quality, in that it was usually better than prints from a more-expensive Taz-5 at our local 'makerspace' and fared favorably with prints from a much higher-end U-Print.

Hi Mad Pup, You might find that the transport lubrication, which is more of a rust preventative, will dry out over a short period, and leave your bearings un-lubricated.

I have used light oil on one printer, and different greases on four other printers, with no noticable difference, except the oil needs topping up more frequently than the grease.

Some people find they are having unexpected collision reports, which get more frequent, as the transport oil dries out
