layer skip

I keep having this issue and its very frustrating. Im wondering if anyone else is having it...

i read up on a lot about layer shifting. My issue is similar. Its on X axis.

the print is fine, then at some point the X axis shifts. It is off by like 2-3 mm. then, 3-4 mm later... it corrects itself.

I am mostly printing simple square boxes. I dont understand. If it shifted and continued ok... but why only for a bit off, then back to the right location? very weird. It keeps happening. anyone seen this? the height varies. Not always same height. Its very frustrating to have a nice box printed, then a crease around the entire box at a certain point.

Bearing's on X are possibly over-tightened

Two things classically to check for this condition.

1.  Grub screws both tight and tightened in correct order on X axis motor

2.  Bearings on the X carriage are over-squeezed.  Loosen the screws on the X carriage back.  These screws should be barely tightened on the bearing - so easy to over-tighten these

UPDATE

I noticed that the grub on the X-axis motor was sliding. I thightened the set screws, hopefully it fixes the issue....

just started another print and there is a very slight offset again... not as bad as before but I see a bit.

What is X-carriage bearing screws? is it the screws behind the extrude assembly? I can try loosening those a bit...

Yes. The bearings that carry the extruder are your X axis.

Yes, loosen those screws.
