Layer shifting

Hi,

Finished building my MK3 the other day and finally started printing.
But on every print I get a layer shift at roughly the same point.
I've checked my belts and they are tight enough to make the dull base twang as described in the manual.
I've checked the grub screws on the pulley and tightened them.
Firmware is up to date.
Filament is properly wound with no pieces getting caught under other pieces.
And the extruder and carriage move smoothly along the XY axis.
The only change I've made that seems to make any difference is that if I run the printer in stealth mode the shifting becomes less severe but happens more often.

Re: Layer shifting

Even though you think that your belt tensions are good, what are the values of your belt status?

Re: Layer shifting

Ok, they're perfectly fine.
In which direction do you have this layer shifting?

Re: Layer shifting

It seems to be offset to the right hand side and slightly towards the back.

Re: Layer shifting

Which slicer do you use?
We have also encountered problems with Slic3r-PE 1.41.0 printing round things.

Try printing the Benchy with Cura and see if it looks similar, to be sure the issue results from your printer.
It can also be on your printers Z-axis, the spindles rotate eccentrically at a certain height, but...

Re: Layer shifting

I used Slic3r.
Trying with Cura now.

Edit:
Change made no visible impact.

Re: Layer shifting

I had a slight layer shift and solved it by turning off crash detection.

Re: Layer shifting

Crash detection is already off.
Beginning to think I'll never get a 100% successful print 🙁

Re: Layer shifting

If you print a simple cube, do you have the issue?
If yes, in both X and Y axis?

Re: Layer shifting

When printing a cube it appears to be a y axis shift

Re: Layer shifting

Ok so you can try 2 things (not at the same time). First, you can try to put a bit more tension to the Y belt and retry. If you have still the issue, you may have tighten too much the bearing U-bolts, so you can try to unscrew them a bit.

And check also that the Y cable bundle isn't interacting with anything.

Re: Layer shifting

Thank you all for your help, I'm not entirely sure what I've done but it appears to be fixed.
