Just Ordered MK3S+ Kit, will I need to grease the bearings?
Hi all… just ordered my first Prusa yesterday, now have to impatiently wait 4-5 weeks. In the meantime I’ve been trolling the net about the MK3S+ in regards to building it. My question is will I need to grease or oil the bearings or not? Also, is there anything else you could suggest I need to have on hand when it arrives that isn’t included in the kit?

Hi Salty,
You have just opened a can of worms.
I always lube my bearings during assembly,
Prusa says
there are lots of different discussions on the internet. some say the lubricant is a thin transport rust preventative, that dries out and leads to lack of lubrication...
others say the Original lubrication is perfectly adequate.
Prusa do say that your printer will need periodic maintenance which includes lubricating the bearings...
why not consider the build period your first opportunity to do routine maintenance, and lubricate the bearings, then you know that they will be OK for a good period of time.
Your printer, your choice...

@saltygentleman
Please post to an area with your intended printer MK3S+ I believe you stated. This is the Prusa XL section, a printer that dose not currently exist. you may find better responses in the

Thank you for the explanation. It is clear for me

My recommendation is to not worry about greasing during the build, but lube up after about a month of printing, then have a regular preventive maintenance schedule every 3 to 6 months.
