Issues after upgrade to mk3s

Hi all, I had two issues I cant seem to figure out and was looking for a bit of advice. I recently upgraded from the mk3 to the mk3s and had the following two issues.

1) Filament sensor doesn't work, this one I was concerned when I built it the lever seems not to move very far from the ball and I felt like it was too short. The magnets are the correct orientation.

2) The more major issue is I cant seem to get pla to stick to my bed at all now. I usually clean with 99% isopropyl. I've tried refreshing with acetone as well. I had ordered a second sheet with the kit and cant get that to work either. I've done first layer cal a few times and can get good results there but going to print my lines peel up and pop off before I finish the first layer.

Any suggestions?

1. Make sure the sensor is turned on. I mention this because it seem like a common issue. People turn it off because ti wasn’t working and after the upgrade, you forget to turn it on.

Re: Issues after upgrade to mk3s

Hi NavCab4422,

I have had some similar issues with upgrading to the MK3S - hopefully these tips will help you out.

1. I too noticed that the arm did not move very much when assembling the upgrade but didn't think much about it until I finished and tried to load filament and the senor would not trigger. The issue was I had over tightened the screw for the swing arm. I would swear that I had left it loose, but after disassembling the unit and backing off the screw a little more it worked brilliantly and has the full range of movement. Note that the arm is now very loose, but works great.

2. For the bed adhesion issue I have had similar problems. I always use isopropyl to clean between prints and use acetone to refresh the surface, but about once ever 3 months my PLA stops sticking. I have followed the advise of others on this form to wash the plate using dish washing liquid, dry and then try printing again. I doubted this would work, but to my shock it worked perfectly and the PLA was sticking well. I would suggest trying the dish washing liquid trick first.

It might be that the nozzle is too close to the bed during the first layer

Thanks I'll try these tips I did the dish soap last night but didnt get a chance to test it out, (I'm surprised because I literally bought a new bed with the mk3s kit and still had issues)

Ill look into the screw whats the least invasive way of getting to it? The sensor was off and I turned it on but couldnt trigger it unless I pulled the plug is it has to be something with that arm I found a longer version Ill print out just in case the screw doesnt fix it

Re: Issues after upgrade to mk3s

The only way I could get to it was to remove the part cooling fan and disassemble the hot end from the front (you will also need to cut the cable ties so you get some slack on the cables. The process is not fun, but not nearly as bad as the full upgrade was.

It seems that you might have the same problem as me and the other guy - a bit too long PTFE tube which in turn causes bondtech gears to not grab filament; and in result there is too little plastic to stick to bed

It's a guess ofc
