Is there a command via LCD to load filament and extrude it until canceled?
New filament has to fill the chamber and tubed I suppose. Is there a way to 'prime' the hot end after a filament change?

Bump. Anyone?

@heneryh
I'm a new (happy) user. I can't help - but this sounds like a good idea to me.

When you change filament you can just respond "No" to the prompt asking whether it's feeding correctly. I find 3 times is more than enough to push any old filament out and get new filament flowing with the Mk3. There is no sensor that would allow the printer to detect this, so other than just extruding for a while, the printer doesn't have sufficient smarts to know when the new filament is flowing.

Maybe I do it the inefficient way.
I use the 1) Remove filament command then 2) just slide the new one in.
But it is the sliding the new one in that leave the filament very much un-primed

When you say "slide the new one in" you mean inserting it and letting the filament sensor routine detect the filament and pull it in, correct? It gives you options to feed in more filament if you answer "no" to the prompt. I answer no twice most of the time and filament is usually feeding smoothly.

@bobstro, no, I eject the current filament using whatever that main menu item is called.
With the new filament the mk3s doesn't pull it in at all. I just push it in until it hits the gears but it never pulls. Then I seem to have to wait until my next print but I have to false start a few times to get the pump primed. This can't be the way skilled users do it.

It sounds like the autosensing for filament loading isn't working. That's a common problem on the MK3s. You can either fix it or if you turn the option off via the LCD then you should have options to Unload Filament and Load Filament. With those options you insert till the filament hits the gears then select load filament. That will grab it and start extruding (as long as the extruder is at temperature). It will then present you with an option to load more Yes/No (cant remember the exact wording). If you select No it will feed more. Once you select yes it goes back to the main lcd.

Thanks, I'll try it out. I know for nearly a fact that the way I am doing it isn't right 🙂
