High Pitch Hissing sound from main board when printing PETG ?

Hello to all members.

I'm new to 3D printing (i just finished my 1st roll of PLA) and i have a question about a strange noise i hear from the mainboard.

I started printing some stuff with Prusa PETG filament and after layer 0.8 a high pitch hissing sound comes from the mainboard. Is this normal?
I never heard this sound with PLA printing. I printed 3 things with PETG and i always had this sound after layer 0.8. Then i changed to PLA to print something and there was no sound.
Then changed again to PETG and the sound comes back.

Is it normal or there is a problem?

I print in normal settings and with the default presets in Slic3r.
Printer runs on latest firmware.

The printer is very silent in general but this hissing sound with PETG is very annoying if i stay in the room.

I think it's the sound from the nozzle fan you hear. It is activated for PETG after 3 layers = 0.8 mm.

Thanks for the answer but i do not think that it is that because the fan works also in PLA but never sounds like this. Only in PETG. (haven't tried any other type of filament because i only have PLA and PETG).

Also i do not know if the video does any justice but with my ear i can hear the sound only on the top left corner where the main board is and it does not move with the nozzle (if it was the fan). The sound seems to be like a coil or something electrical (that pitch is very high) and not like a moving part like the axis in the fan.

If my ear deceives me and it is the fan as you say, does printing with PETG makes the fan spin faster than PLA?

Go into the printer settings and turn the fan on a setting that isn't 0 or 255. The fan has a noticeable whine due to the PWM used to control the speed. Is that what you're hearing?

Karl.w2 you are right.

I turned the print fan on without printing anything (Settings->Temperature->Fan Speed) and i can hear this annoying sound. THIS IS IT.

I tried various speeds to try to identify a range of speeds that this sound is generated an the sad thing is that i hear the sound from 1 -> 247
The only time that the sound disappears is when the fan is at 0 (turned off) OR it is running at full speed (actually fro 248 -> 255).

From the settings in Slic3r i see that when printing PLA the fan runs at full speed thus i do not hear the sound. For PETG the default settings in Slic3r for the fan is between 30~50% speed thus i hear the sound.

Now i understand the problem thanks to you.

The thing now is if this indicates a problem on the board or not and how can i fix this problem. Also, if i print PETG as far as i know it is not recommended to print with 100% fan speed. Can i print with fan at 0% or 100% without problems on my print?

contacted support and they suggested to send a replacement fan.

I will update the thread as soon as i'll replace the fan and have new info about the problem. (fixed or not)

Interesting that they sent you a new fan. I just assumed this was normal because of how the fan works. I look forward to finding out if this fixes your problem. I also suggest plugging the new one in without running the wire to test in case it sounds the same.
