Heatbed screws not flush

So, I've assembled the kit, finished up Friday. Spent the weekend trying to figure out why I fail calibration over and over. From what I've noticed it looks like the screws in the heatbed on other people's printers are flush. None of mine are. None of the holes are countersunk deep enough to fit the screw head. I have almost a full mm above the bed on all screws, and the nozzle is colliding with them on calibration. I tried removing and reinserting, I have applied more torque than I was really comfortable with. Nothing seems to help. Any advice?

Could you post picture of heatbed hole (without a screw in in) and also one of the screws?
The heads should be below or flush with just light torque.

You have the little cylindrical spacers under the heat bed for each screw, right?

and you're using the "cone" headed screws and not the standard ones, right?
