First prints - extra material / residue at start
Just finished my kit build. First post here. I did try to search but did not find anything. So when I did my first print after the life adjust z, I get extra material that seems to get deposited in the front left corner. Is this a clearing of the nozzle in preparation for the print?
Well after that when the print starts, there seems to be additional material loosely stuck to the bottom of the nozzle. So as the print of badge starts, this seems to hang around. The nozzle catches it sometimes. Eventually it ends up getting embedded in the print. And it seems get 'absorbed'. When my badge was done, there was no evidence that the extra material had been there at all. And my badge seems nicely attached to the steel plate. Maybe a further z adjustment is needed to avoid this extra material?

There are two things you can do.
1. Preheat the nozzle. Wait about five minutes after it reaches temperature. That will release the pressure in the nozzle, and when you remove the filament that has ozzed out, you can get the rest with a GENTLE brush of a brass wire brush.
2. Go to this page: http://projects.ttlexceeded.com/3dprinting_prusaslicer_gcode.html
He has a very nice change to the starting GCODE, which does the following.
"
-
A 2-step “no ooze” nozzle warmup routine to expedite startup, but avoid dots and strings caused by molten filament dripping out during the mesh bed leveling and bed warmup processes.
-
Position the nozzle away from the PEI print surface during warmup and startup motion to avoid damaging the print surface.
-
PINDA warmup to ensure a consistent 35C PINA temperature before performing mesh bed leveling to ensure consistent results.
-
A modified prime line print routine to catch errant nozzle ooze, test extrusion and perform a final wipe action to avoid stringing between the prime line and start of the print."
RE: First prints - extra material / residue at start
I've only just done my very first print from SD card this evening so not even a novice yet. I experienced the same problems during the first layer calibration when it tended to stick because the Z was too high. Any slight residue left on the nozzle after cleaning made it worse, I ended up examining with a magnifying glass as eyes not up to much and saw a fine smear. I'd been preheating and using a bit of cardboard to clean it but since found a small brass brush which works a treat. Once I'd got it perfectly clean it hardly ever stuck even when my Z was still a bit high. It still drops a bit out of the nozzle before it starts printing but now it leaves it on the board on the first wipes off print, I will however look at the above suggestions when I start printing my own things.

Be careful with t he Brass Brush,
You might short circuit the heater element wires, and blow a fuse.
