First prints are pretty bad... all help appreciated!

hi everyone!

I’ve just finished building my printer, and am pretty disappointed with the first few goes... but understand it all a learning curve!

Trying to search the internet for help to my problems will be easier when I know what the problems even called, so for now, if anyone can identify obvious starting points to the poor whistle printout I’d be grateful!

First layer height seems okay now, set to about -0.800... but I know literally nothing!

What a mess!

thanks in advance,

Pete

It looks like a lot going on, but it may come down to fixing one or 2 issues and being good.  I think the first thing you should check is if your belts are too loose or too tight.  What is the belt tension in the menus?  If it's a new machine it is unlikely to be a clog on the first print, but is every part of your hotend tightened correctly?

@xayoz

Thanks so much for the reply!

I had wondered if the belts were tight enough, but think I had mentally-ignored it as it was more than just changing a setting!

I bit the bullet and tightened the belts, and am just printing the whistle again, which I think is looking better... maybe not quite perfect yet, but I’ll post a pic when it’s finished!

thanks again 👌

Much better!

the first few layers shifted, but I found the grub screws in the y axis pulley were loose (twat!) so I’m assuming that is pretty much the only problem?!!

Thanks again @xayoz

there are two Grub Screws
One Is supposed to tighten against the Flat side of the Motor Shaft and the other is then tightened against the curve of the motor shaft
