First Layer Problems
I recently bought a used MK3S+ (which according to the seller should be correctly assembled since he got successful prints). I do however get some problems, especially on larger prints.
The attached image is from trying to print a rectangular basket, but as you can see it fails to create an even first layer. There are bits "sticking up" from the first layer, which causes the nozzle to tear holes during the second layer. The places where the first layer becomes uneven is seemingly random.
I've tried to research the common culprits that could be behind this, but struggle to get all the way. The things I've tried:
- Calibrating the Z-axis (both through the built in program and through one "improved" from printables)
- Changing to 7x7 mesh bed leveling.
- (Setting the Z-axis for this specific metal sheet)
The filament used in the picture is a PETG filament. Could it be moisture in this that is causing it?
Has anyone else experienced this and/or have any idea what I could try?
RE: First Layer Problems
I would suggest that
1, you have finger prints or similar, on the build plate this is enough to stop filament sticking...
2, your first layer calibration is too close to the build plate, causing ripples in the filament layer
so I Would start off by washing the build plate, with HOT Water and a touch of dish soap, rubbed vigorously with a NEW dish sponge ( old ones may be contaminated with grease) then rinse well with hot water and dry immediately wit Plain paper towels (Try to keep your fingers off the build surface at all times)
after that I would immediately do a first layer calibration with the type of filament that you intend to print... at the moment your live Z value is too big a negative number,
good luck,
Joan

Thanks for the reply!
You tip if cleaning it seems to have done it! The first layer calibration was entirely different and more easy this time. Didn't know it was that sensitive - but guess you learn something new every day.
Thanks!
