First layer issue after Hatchbox Wood PLA

Fairly new to this printer, but have managed to print on some PLA and PETG without issue.   Have used multiple brands as well as the smooth sheet and textured.  All seemed well until I recently did some printing with Hatchbox Wood PLA filament and now I can not get the first layer to print.  It does this crazy vertical zig zag pattern and I actually saw an archive post from someone with the same thing so I posted on that, but figure no one looks at archive posts.   So far I have tried the following:

I am at a loss on what to do next.  Here is a picture of what it is doing:

Here is a link to another person that had this problem, but unfortunately no solution:

Any suggestions?

Changed out to PLA and smooth sheet.  Same results with Prusa PLA.  The same weird zig zag pattern.

This may sound dumb, but when you printed with the wood PLA did you use a hardened nozzle?

Would printing with wood PLA wear the nozzle that quick? My guess would be that the nozzle is blocked. I read that when printing with wood filament it’s beat to use a larger nozzle, 0.6 for example.

Wood, carbon fiber(CF), glass fiber(GF), and metal filled fivers are all considered abrasive.

Nope that was the issue.  I had looked up Wood PLA and lots of folks sad it wasnt abrasive, but I guess mine is.  Here is the nozzle vs a new one.  Popped on a new nozzle and BAM its working great again.

I have a nozzle-x hardened and coated nozzle in hand I just haven’t replaced it yet. For some reason replacing the nozzle makes me nervous, that and I really haven’t had a need for a hardened nozzle yet. I’m about a kilo and a half of filament through my new MK3S. My old printer was only capable of printing PLA.

I picked up a hardened steel nozzle at .40mm and .50mm to use next time I print.

Don't forget with the steel nozzles you will need to bump your temps up by 5-10 degrees.  I run my Mk3 permanently with a Nozzle-X and have just created new filament profiles with the adjustment in temps.

For filled filaments like wood I personally don't use anything less than 0.6, all it takes is one slightly larger particle inside the filament and its clog city.

Thanks for the tip I didn't know that.  I'll check out those Nozzle-X.  Any downside to running those all the time?

Except for the slight increase needed nope.  As they are made by E3d, the makers of the mk3 hotend and nozzles they work perfectly and you can just use them for everything.
I think they are the best for the price.  Id love to use a solid carbide nozzle as there would be no need to adjust the temperature on those but it would cost me around £70 shipped to the UK (plus import duties/admin fees) so the Nozzle X it is.
