Extruder scoring the upper x-axis smooth rod?

RE: Extruder scoring the upper x-axis smooth rod?

Just to clarify, I did not lubricate some of my printers.  I do lubricate them every 1-2 months.  I print about 40-60 hours per week on each printer.  I would print 24/7 but I have to work.

One every 1-2 months, I follow the instructions:

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/i3-printers-regular-maintenance_2072/

I have started lubricating the rods at the start with each new printer.  Not much but a little.

No disagreement there - but if the bearings are shipped with a shipping oil, rather than the correct lubricant this should be highlighted in the kit instructions 🙂

I've had mine printing for about a week and a half now - without checking hours its probably hovering around the 30-35hr mark at the moment.  I know the feeling though - I do a full time job, using the printer in the evenings - then nowhere near it at the weekends.  Confident enough to leave it running without me checking it every 2 minutes, but not confident enough yet to leave it running overnight or weekends

I'm going to apply some more lube before the next print!

Matt - I'm curious - were the bearings in a small plastic bag with a red/blue RoHS logo and a small amount of brownish oil coating them? Photo above. Or, was the "lubricant" a whitish film - like your typical white lithium grease or lubriplate?

This is from Misumi - the bearing manufacturer.  Note the text that CLEARLY states the bearings are shipping in preservative (the brown stuff in my photo above), not lubricant.

Misumi also offers LUBRICATED bearings. They come with one of three greases - not in oil.

Definately in oil - not grease

And thats one of the bags they came in, complete with oily film 🙂

Confident that is only a preservative. Were the bearings marked Misumi?

In all honesty I can't remember.

80% chance they were.  I was reading odds and sods about them at the time and I don't remember them being marked as something else

All of the Misumi bearings I've ordered are clearly marked and branded Misumi. I'm not aware of them selling white label.

Mine were from Prusa.  Not Misumi.

Hi Guys,

Mine were marked Misumi. The extruder moves smoothly when going left and right without angle. It’s the 45 degree movement that creates the noise.

so if I was printing the letter “Z”…there would only be noise with printing the line connecting the top and bottom straight lines.

This is normal. Both motors running in lock step rattles everything. And, they make harmonics. Sort of like two jet engines throbbing at you. But this is at higher frequencies and can get a bit annoying.

Have you set STEALTH mode? A minor drop in speed, a major drop in sound levels.
