Extruder scoring the upper x-axis smooth rod?

First, Hello! My first post and would greatly appreciate some help.

I am now into about 700g of filament for my initial run of 3D Printing on my MK3S+.

I am printing 100 x 100mm boxes. Each takes about 7h30m to print.

I started to notice noise from the printer. And it sounds like it’s coming from the extruder running along the upper x-axis rod.

now I can see that the actual rod is getting scored. It’s nail catching deep. Runs about 7” across the bar.

anyone help with the solving the problem?

1: What grease did you use when you cleaned and degreased the linear bushings before they got installed?

2: Did any of the bearings drop out when you inserted the rods?

@tim-2

Hi Tim

1. no grease. Used straight from the pack which contained lubricant.

2. no bearings fell out.

Can you post an image of "actual rod score"?  Which side of the rod is it on?

This is a Misumi bearing as shipped. The amber liquid in the baggy is NOT lubricant.

Hi Tim,

    Thx for the reply. Please see a pic of the MK3S+ assembly instructions for Y-Axis. It clearly says the bearings are lubricated.

Yep - and I own a bridge in England I'd like to sell you right now for only a mere $200,000 in BitCoin to this address:

Prusa has been telling this lie since they started shipping Mk3 printers. They finally broke down and started telling Mini owners they must grease the bearings.

Oh, by the way Frank, how are those "lubricated bearings" holding up?  Honest - I've tried to tell people they must grease the bearings; I have pleaded with Prusa to tell people to grease their bearings. But here you are.

I'd be calling mailing screaming kicking my way to Prusa's front door.  They'd be shipping me a new set of rods and bearings overnight express, and paying any and all duties.

Well, they now tell you to lubricate them and sell the lubricant.  I would start doing so.

If they now tell you to lubricate them - it must be very new!  My kit which arrived less than 2 weeks ago said they are pre-lubricated.  I guess I'm going to be doing a partial strip down 🙁

I have not built one in a year but the maintenance clearly says you need to do so.

The build manual still says they are pre-lubricated...

I would expect lubrication to be added/changed as part of a maintenance regime.

Prusa Knowledge Base | 2. Y-axis assembly (prusa3d.com)

Step 19 for example "The printer's package contains a lubricant, which is intended for maintenance. No need to use it now the bearings are lubricated. "

@minormatt

I think that is the point of contention that either they are not well lubricated or not lubricated at all and people need to lubricate at the start and soon thereafter.
