Clicking/skipping extruder motor
Hello everyone, so my extruder motor started clicking and skipping mid-print resulting in "air prints"
After checking related posts :
opened and fastened the gear
checked alignment of the extruder gears
tweaked the idler tension bolts
checked if the idler has developed any "wobble"
probed the nozzle w needle
It loads and unloads correctly, but as soon as I start printing I get clicking sound and "air prints" :/
It's most likely a clogged nozzle but which is the best thing to do now?
Some suggest cold pull but I don't have nylon filament , should I get one and start with it?
Removing/cleaning the nozzle is the other option, but since I never done it what's the best method to avoid stupid mistakes?
Replacement is the last and slowest option.
Re: Clicking/skipping extruder motor
See section 12.5 of the latest 3D printing handbook. Nylon or cleaning filament isn't always necessary (but it's nice to have some on hand).

Thanks, I think I fixed it, at least temporary by going to 245 and performing several unload/load sequences.
I wish the extruder was easy enough to be able to quickly disassemble/assemble, but oh well 🙄
Re: Clicking/skipping extruder motor
A cold pull can be done with any filament with good results. But before I do cold pulls, I'll heat the nozzle 30-40C above whatever I am printing and extrude 50 to 100 mm. This works pretty well, but cold pulls are still needed from time to time. Last one was in the middle of a roll of Prusa PLA on a non-challenging part. Something hard made it into the roll and thoroughly jammed the nozzle.

...Prusa PLA on a non-challenging part...
Me and apparently other people have experienced some inconsistencies with the vanilla white.
Since I am very new I have no experience with other materials than prusa pla. I've yet to determine if other brands are more stable.
Re: Clicking/skipping extruder motor
I haven't found a brand that produces perfect filament.
