Started layer shifting after only 4,500+ prints.... unacceptable quality.....
Hi all,
Had a Prusa Mk3s (originally upgraded from a Mk3) - it's been absolutely bulletproof and has been a total workhorse for me with basically nothing major going wrong other than the occasional clogged nozzle (nearly always my fault!). So can hardly question the quality of the machine if after 4,500 prints it's started to need some maintenance!
Recently it's started to layer shift which is ruining prints, so I'm trying to work out what's causing this:
- Layer shift is happening at random heights, so its not consistent height it occurs
- It happens on both x and y axes - which is odd to suddenly start on both (I've checked belt tightness and grub screws, but feels pretty unlikely both would come loose at same time - either way, they seem fine)
Any other ideas on a) what to test and b) how to resolve?
I'm half-minded to give the whole thing a bit of a strip down and replace bearings etc, just not sure which bits I should aim to replace!
Thanks in advance for any help!

Check the magnets under the build plate. They sometimes come loose and get stuck in places you don't want them.

Check power connector at PSU and on einsy
Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models
It's probably time for a bit of tlc.
Clean and relubricate all the smooth rods and check, clean and lubricate the idler pulleys as a start.

Cheerio,

Hehheh, ludicrous really - put a bit of grease on the rods and that's it back to normal!
That should do it for another 4,500 prints.... 😉
