Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
My MK3.9 kit shipped and after the fact I decided when I do the conversion I'd like to do the new motors too. I had always planned to, but the thought of tearing the printer down to replace the motors doesn't appeal to me so I ordered the Z axis .9 steppers already. The X and Y .9 steppers are not available from PRUSA yet.
Can I assemble the 3.9 with the .9 Z axis motors, and use the old 1.8 X and Y for now? Will the calibration detect the correct number of steps for both and work in a hybrid state? I am hoping so, since I read the firmware is the same for both variants (3.9 and 4) and that it handles the steps in firmware, transparent to G-Code.
If not, I may hold off on doing my upgrade until I can get the X and Y .9 motors. Does anyone know another source for them? I haven't seen them identified anywhere, but assume they are LDO as in the past.
Thanks!

I guess video was too big. Maybe this one will work

I would submit this question to Prusa through a chat or email. They should be able to tell you if it will work.
RE: Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
So as far as I know, only the X and Y are 0.9 steppers, the Z axes are the same, only they have a different plug
RE:
The MK4 Z motors are 1,8 steppers there is no need for more precize, when the minimum layer height is 0,05 mm.
RE: Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
Support was very little help. Since they don' sell the .9 motors, and they are "open source" why are they so tight lipped on sourcing them elsewhere? I am sure they are LDO, but which motors would work withtout firmware or g-code modifications. I'd be happy to order from another source. There are plenty of .9 motors available. Would Moons or E3D work without mod?

Would these work with the MK4 firmware and Gcodes?
LDO Motor

Why don't you buy the full mk3 to mk4 upgrade kit the difference between 3.9 kit and mk4 upgrade kit is the mk4 one you get the motors
Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models
RE: Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
already got the 3.9 kit delivered. Ws planning on just the 3.5 but was upgraded to 3.9 and feel like at that point I'd rather go all the way.

Probably this one. Part number is the same as the X and Y MK3 motors, but now this is .9 instead of 1.8. Not sure why the part number is the same.

RE:
Were you able to get 0.9 motors to work? I tried Moons 0.9 1A motors (MS17HA2P4100) and it failed x/y calibration every time. I swapped to Moons 1.8 1A motors (MS17HD2P4100) and it worked great. Need to figure out what current the MK4 uses for the x/y motors.

Try stepperonline 1.68 Amp they works
RE: Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
Just to be sure, did changing the Current Printer Type in the settings make a difference here?

Yes, although the self test will detect it, I also tried it with both settings.
RE: Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
@lino77 Do you think there are any Moons motors that would work? Maybe the 1.5A or 2A? I only ask because then I can change the pin connector out instead of rewiring everything. Plus Moons are fairly high quality
RE:
I guess there are more people in this situation than there would have been, with 3.5 orderers getting the free 3.9 and wanting the "MK4" motors with the money we saved.
@category-5 , did you end up trying that motor Printed Solid sells and seeing if it works?
RE: Mk 3.9 with MK4 Z Axis motors.
I chickened out since I couldn’t find any real support from prusa or the community. I still haven’t torn down the mk3 yet. My worry is that the one-for-all input shaper won’t work at all with different motors, even if they are better ones. I hope they start offering motors soon, or at least steer us toward a source. Open source prusa is awfully tight lipped these days.

ok. i may give them a shot, i have my mk3s stripped down but didn't continue yet. Going through the trouble will probably guarantee they're the wrong motors 😉

The LDO have to be the best gamble because PRUSA uses LDO motors, and those are the only ones that are .9 and have the correct dimensions. Plus, the model number is the same as the MK3 motors except for the last few letters.
Only way it's not those is if there's an OEM only product line, or PRUSA is having something made specifically for their specification, which seems overkill and pointless to be honest, with all the options available off the shelf.
Only benefit to building the 3.9 and upgrading to the 4 is I can directly compare the difference In VFA. I have a Bear kit with Fysetc replacement motors, and that has less VFA than my all-stock MK3. It's either the motors or the frame. The rest of the parts are genuine E3D, Bondtech, etc just like my stock machine.

This stepper works,
testet on my MK3.9 . after selftest is it now an MK4 🙂

Input shaping working okay too?
