Mk3 (no s, no +) able to upgrade to mk3.5/3.9/4?
I am seeing conflicting info on the upgrades page that says it's upgradable from 3/s/+ but it shows the mk3 as NOT compatible, too. Is there a reason the 3 without any s/+ upgrades isn't compatible with the upgrades?
I have a stock 3 and never went to S/+ because the $50 upgrade said that it would not provide measurable improvements over the 3 (Prusa's words, not mine). As I've printed on this for 5 years now without a day of downtime, I never upgraded, but the 4's better leveling, new extruder, and 32-bit board are very intriguing to me.
Is there a list of what parts wouldn't be compatible to upgrade? Thanks!

FWIW, I contacted tech support chat tonight about this issue, since I want to upgrade a vanilla Mk3 missing some parts. They told me that ONLY the 3.5 kit actually requires a Mk3s/+ since it retains the extruder. A vanilla Mk3 can use the Mk3.9 or Mk4 kit. Thus sayeth tech support.

There's no direct path to upgrade.
You would need to get a Mk3S upgrade kit, then a Mk3S+ upgrade kit, *then* the mk4 upgrade kit.

What makes it a problem to upgrade from a MK2.5? (okee no magnetic bed that's 1)

Do they need to update this?
MK3.5 upgrade contains the xBuddy board and new LCD, gives your MK3 the new 32-bit electronics, new connectivity options, Prusa Connect support, and also Input Shaper and Pressure Advance for high-speed printing. Nextruder is not included.

https://www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-i3-mk3-s-to-mk3-5-upgrade-kit/
The store page says it's only compatible with the Mk3s and s+.
RE: Mk3 (no s, no +) able to upgrade to mk3.5/3.9/4?
As the only real difference between the Mk3 and the s/+ is the filament sensor then its possible that the nextruder uses one of the parts from that. Could be the magnet, the ball bearing or the actual detector itself.
Any or all of those could be sourced 3rd party. Just saying.

are we makers or what ? 🙂
RE: Mk3 (no s, no +) able to upgrade to mk3.5/3.9/4?
some are makers, some are users,
My Mk2 MMU1 is pretty much standard, I changed the fan shroud...
the FrankenPrusa that I recently donated to someone less well off, is a mish mash of parts but works well,
My Mk3s has a different extruder and hot end.
my mk3s with MMU3 is as standard as a printer with a pre release MMU3 can be...
I also have a Geeetech which is nowhere near standard
and a core XY that I am building, that has already had a couple of minor tweaks during the build...
Am I a user, or a builder.... I Don't really know...
But I am happy in my own little way!

The other difference I overlooked is the PSU, the Mk3 uses an older one but I'm not sure what the precise differences between the Silver (Mk3) and black ones are.
I still think the think that will be blocking the Mk3(no S or +) is the old filament sensor. Its not likely the new firmware on the xBuddy board will support it, as far as Prusa are concerned the old one is dead technology. Still using mine though 🙂

After I picked up the upgrade kit - they did post at the bottom of the upgrade that it was only for the 3S+. The title still sort of indicates that a bare 3 was covered.
However; there is a upgrade path for the 3 to the 3S+ so you can get there from here.
