Z Calibration

Hello!
I am looking for some help on calibrating the Z axis. I already e-mailed info@prusa but was looking for some quicker assistance. This is my second 3D printer but my first build.

When I calibrate Z it presses the extruder into the bed. This is what my printer is doing.. After doing this I tried to do print the original calibration and it gauged a hole in the PEI surface of the heatbed.

Troubleshooting steps I've tried:

  • I tried to loosen and tighten the tension nuts.

  • I checked that the probe was in the right location.

  • Reseated the probe connection to the board

  • Reinstalled the firmware

  • Tried to live adjust Z
  • The probe has never aligned exactly with the circles on the bed . Does that matter? The probe is always a little to the right of the circle. The extruder carriage did not hit the X stop so I first used duct tape to move the X stop closer to the center, and now I have a piece of ABS which was acetoned onto the carriage.

Your best option is to contact support via the "Live Chat" on the shop pages. Tell them about the email you sent and they will assist you.

Unfortunately, the Mk2 is a new printer and the Mk1->Mk2 upgrades have not shipped yet, so there are very few people on here who can give Mk2 specific advice.

Just wanted to say that I had the exact problem! I also have a hole in my pei sheet, back middle calibration point 🙂
Now I only do calibrations "cold", I even rewrote the simplify3d script to start heating and calibrate while heating the bed (before heating extruder).

Mine works now, you have to make sure the probe hits the very center of the circles by adding/remove to x-axis end-stop (as you have) and moving the frame in y-axis. Also make sure that the probe is LEVEL! (mine was slightly tilted which ruined it on the last calibration marks).

    Re: Z Calibration

We are helping keri.h via the email. I will post the final solution here for future reference when we are done.

Also make sure that the probe is LEVEL!
I'll add that to the manual.

I am having the identical issue as keri.h

Has there been a solution for this yet?

    Michael,

this topic is very old and now the firmware (3.0.6 and newer) provides assistance with the calibration. What firmware are you running? Did you follow the manual? Did you run the XYZ calibration?
