xyz calibration causes probe/nozzle bed-crash

I just received a new kit last week and I've having a lot of trouble with the calibration. Every time I execute the calibrate xyz menu item, the z axis rams the nozzle into the board. I've been through the manuals, videos and forums looking for solutions.

1. the firmware was 3.09. I re-flashed it but no change.
2. procedurally, I do the following:
a. reset xyz calibrations
b. self test. finds all stops and reports "all correct"
c. auto home. that works fine, the probe ends up centered in the circle with the nozzle just touching the bed and the probe 1.05 mm higher
d. calibrate xyz. I jog the x carriage to the z-top stops until both sides skip. When the z comes down it just keeps going. I try to shut it off but by that time the bed is pushed down and the x axis is skewed.

What am I missing?

Ok, I'm an idiot. The biggest part of the problem was that I installed the Z-axis top-stops upside down.

Now I'm having better luck with the calibrations but it failed with the nozzle dragging on the bed at 1.05mm and 0.8mm. Seems to almost work with paper clearance at 0.6mm but I'm not quite successful--it reports bed calibration point not found. I'm going to lower the probe another 0.1 and retry.

I would suggest you lower the probe a lot. Get it to calibrate. Then tweak it back up and calibrate again.

I am having this exact problem on my newly assembled kit. What did you do to fix it? Thanks in advance! Richard

Thank you Steven for posting this. I also installed the Z stops upside down. I feel like an idiot. Lol
