Weird behavior with FW 3.1.0

Hi everyone,

Once upon a time, I had a nozzle clog. This seems to be fixed now (changed nozzle with a brand new one) had issues with idler tension afterwards, which also seems to be fixed.

This dramatic introduction brings me to, just after I fixed these issues I upgraded the printer from 3.0.10 to 3.1.0 in the hope to try out linear advance. However, I have noticed something weird. Prints using 3.1.0 seem to show "ripples" on the X axis travel movements. There are some showing up as well with 3.0.12 (firmware I have downgraded to to retest) but they may have been there before and I never noticed it or wasn't present enough for me to notice outside of calibration cubes (things I don't print often really) but I saw these ripples on a print with 3.1.0 I did just before. I am currently printing an enclosure I have already printed now on FW 3.0.12 and it seems to be printing fine so far, I'll know in about an hour...

The other thing I find odd, calibration does not give out the same skew values. On 3.0.12 I'm at 0.00 measured skew but on 3.1.0 I get 0.08. Was there something changed in the XYZ calibration routines ?

So far I have tested this two times:

- Starting on Firmware 3.1.0 Clear calibration
- Calibrate
- Print cube
- Clear calibration
- Downgrade to 3.0.12
- Repeat above
- Reupgrade to 3.1.0
- Repeat again

And same results for skew values, Y distance values can vary but it is within margin of error. Z offset was set to 0.495mm when I got the pre-built machine, adjusting it to 0.505 seemed to work better after calibration on 3.1.0 but this may be also within margin of error.

So, I am worrying for nothing here or there is something wrong with my X axis ? When I move the X axis by hand with the steppers off, I can feel a "thump" of resistance in the extruder mount, my thought was that there was maybe something needing adjustments there but I'm not too sure at this point.

I have added screenshots of all this, note that I forgot to rotate the cube before printing and since I wanted to keep the same gcode I left it that way. Y on the cube should be X.

Thanks !

That most certainly is not software related but mechanical.
I would check on the x-axis belt and the wheels for dirt or debris which may cause a diameter deviation...
Considering the pictures I take it you print very high speeds.
Try those settings https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/simplify3d-print-settings-august-30-2016--t938-s310.html#p60401
with your calibration cube at 0,15mm .
No matter what, I would do a clean fimware update to the latest one.
Reset the calibration settings, I seem to remember that residues of the old ones can cause trouble.
Then do the complete calibration process again.

Well that was an easy fix enough... 😳

For some reason the grub screws on the left pulley weren't tight enough and the belt seems to have slipped... I'd say it's fixed now..

Reprinted the cube with the same gcode on 3.0.12.

I'll try your S3D profile and recalibrate/upgrade again to 3.1.0, but I'm expecting it should be much better now...
