SKF Linear Bearing LBBR 8-2LS/HV6

I've read a bunch of threads here regarding upgrading the linear ball bearings. I want to upgrade mine as I believe my y-axis bearings maybe failing. Before I pull the trigger on the SKF LBBR 8-2LS/HV6 bearings, is there any reason why I shouldn't? These bearings are pretty pricey at around $19 each. I plan to replace 6 of them for sure in the "x" and "y" axis. I may replace the z-axis bearings also but not sure yet.

I read some good and bad regarding the misumi bearings and I'm not a fan of the igus drylin bearings

I don't understand why folks are having problems with there linear bearings.
What is the failure mode? noise? high resistance? roughness? locking up?
I have 3 printers, two of which are PRUSA MK2 that were ordered the first month that they come out. Both of the Prusa are running production parts they run every day of the work week most of the time around the clock. The only thing I have replaced is one cooling fan, and that was went bad within the first 2 months of operation.

I do not know if there are genuine problems or it is just a bit of a fad. Maybe a bit of both. Grease might be cheap fix rather then $20 bearings.

I replaced the y-axis bearings on one of my MK2's with IGUS bearings because I had a bearing go out. It was an original i3 upgraded to the MK2. The other is still using stock bearings and the only real difference is the IGUS are much quieter. This isn't really a problem for me now that I have enclosures built for both.

Richard what enclosure did you go with? I've seen some of the Ikea ideas, just curious with what you went with.

2 of the 3 Y-axis bearings were making screeching/grinding sounds this past week. I lubed them up with some Super Lube 21030 which seems to have helped.

I'll see how long it helps for but for the bearings it's probably a sign 2 are going out. I use my printer a lot for prototypes and making stuff in general. I've only ran about 8 kg's of filament through it but by the end of the month I'll have run at least another 8-10 kg's through it. It will be running 24/7 starting next week on some projects I have modeled up.

Jeff

I cobbled together parts from different things to get my enclosures built.

You have a nice setup there Richard. Thanks for the links as I plan to use a few of them.
