Problems printing PETG

Hey, I have had my i3 Mk2 for about a month now, and have not had any issues at all with PLA, ABS, or woodfill. I recently decided to try PETG after hearing all of the benefits it has and have been unable to get a successful print for hours, in fact the print never starts.

I purchased https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VKSVMOY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and did some research online to determine what the ideal settings would be, and settled initially on 215 hotend and 70 bed. The filament loads fine, and extrudes fine when extruded manually on the Mk2's screen. However, it fails to extrude at all during the print. It will complete calibration with no issues, and the cleaning strip is printed with no issues at all, however, as soon as the print actually starts there is no extrusion at all.

I have attempted everything I know to get a successful print. Hotend temperature has been adjusted everywhere from 200-240, speed has been adjusted in Slic3r, I have adjusted the tensioner from incredibly tight to very loose, bed has been cleaned with 98% IPA, glue sticks, hair spray, window cleaner, live-z had been adjusted, and I am really at my wits end for what could be causing this issue.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, I am more than willing to attempt anything at this point to get some resolution to this issue.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Problems printing PETG

I have not used that particular brand of petg. All the rolls of esun and colorfabb I have printed are from 240 to 280 c for the extruder and 70 to 90 for the bed depending on print.

At 240 the filament will begin to drip from the hotend during the calibration process and makes a stringy mess, so I don't think I have the ability to go any higher. The cleaning stripe prints awesomely and has great bed adhesion at any temperature above 205, below that it is somewhat inconsistent.

Use the PE Slic3r edition, load up the PET profile w/ the .20 profile, leave all the defaults, slice the batman, post of photo of the 1st layer only to this thread.

Can you unload the filament and make sure the extruder has not stripped a portion. I have found when trying to print faster with petg you can strip the filament if not extruding hot enough. Might be worth a reload and looked for a badly chewed area .

Re: Problems printing PETG

Hi,

I've been successfully printing PETG for over a year now.

The Slicer PET settings with a 240 C nozzle and a 90 Bed have worked great for me.

Sometimes get some stringiness but that is rare now.

Re: Problems printing PETG

➡ i use the transparent petg from herz (manufactured here in germany) quite often. for me it prints best @255°C nozzle and 80°C bed temperature. printing the filament at the upper end of the temperature range delivers the glossy, transparent look of it.

💡 i even use it to lay down a 0.2mm surface, as some kind of raft, at the printbed, before i start to print with nylon (which sicks quite well on top of the petg sheet).

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...
