Problem with Slic3r 1.36.2-prusa 3D but Simplify3D Ok

I printed the following part from thingiverse, a spool holder for quick change: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1794348

Using Slic3r 1.36.2 in the Prusa edition, the part printed with bad artefacts when slicing (default 0.2mm NORMAL). See these pictures and also a G-Code preview. It is obvious that the outer wall must look like alike:

Here the result in real - the same artefacts like shown from slicing (one recognizes the orange lines on the outer wall, this is infact a speed change of extruder. I'm asking myself why this happens :

and now the same model sliced using Simplify3D - outer walls look good. No difference in speed:

This version above sliced with Simplify3D is currently printing on my Prusa i3 Mk2. I will post a image of the result later in this thread.

In the mean time - can anyone give me a advise how to overcome these artefacts in Slic3r ? What settings need to be changed?

any hint is appreciated.

Hello Stephan!

There is a setting in Slic3r that removes fine detail: Print settings -> Advanced -> Resolution. That can be set to e.g. 0.02 to remove details that is not printable anyway. Hopes that helps in your situation.

Hi Hendrik,
Thanks for your suggestion. I will try - but not sure whether this helps.
When looking at the Slic3r G-Code via Simplify, it seems that I see the artifacts of a speed change of the X & Y movement, shown with the all the short orange lines on the wall. The pattern is exactly identical to what I get at the end. Wondering why Slic3r changes the speed there.

Maybe printing one part of the model in vase mode might be best. Or your suggestion 🙂

Ahh - sorry I thought the model had some fine artefacts standing out from the wall... so speed changes ..,. hmm. Can you model a narrower cylinder as well as a wider diameter to see how slic3r handles this?

Thanks for your reply Hendrik. I think I know the culprit now. It is the settings for coast and wipe. Need to figure out what happens if I change or even skip these.
Does 'coast at end' used in Simplify3D exist in Slic3r ? There is a "retract on layer change", maybe this is also causing issues?

Additionally, I've printed the cylindric part of the bolt in vase mode using a multiprocess mode (using the 'variable settings wizard' in Simplify3d). The result is decent:

Currently I'm testing without coast & wipe. Will post the result after it's done.
