Printing with orange HobbyKing HIPS

Hi,

I'm struggling for days to print using this filament. I get warping even with small objects, no matter the bed temperature (90-105) or hotend temperature (220-245).
I've started from the default Prusa HIPS profile, changing the temperatures and the colling parameters, without any success.

There is anyone here successfully printing using that HIPS material?

Thank you.
Dan

Re: Printing with orange HobbyKing HIPS

I only print with HIPS in the summer with doors and windows closed and no aircon to eliminate drafts.

Even then I didn't have much success with anything over 10mm tall as the models tended to delaminate.

I think you may need an enclosure to get decent HIPS prints.

Re: Printing with orange HobbyKing HIPS

Hi, I recently started using HIPS and was also having troubles with prints not sticking, warping, etc. I found success by changing my fan nozzle. I made a modified version of this nozzle, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1947953 . I blocked the opening toward the bed and removed the lip at the top. This leaves a small slot which directs cool air at the extruder nozzle (just a bit below) and not down on the bed or print which causes the warping.
My settings are 230 for the extruder, 80 for the bed, and fan at 30% after layer 6. You could probably do without a fan completely but you'll need it for the top layers to prevent "pillowing" (also bridging). The room I print in is generally about 70f.
Make sure your bed is calibrated and layer 1 looks good.
My HIPS prints stick like PLA now and so far look really good. I have not tried any large prints though so results may change.
I really like this material.
Hope that helps.

Dave
