Power supply

Hello, I was wondering if someone could show me where I could find a replacement power supply for the i3 MK2 that is more powerful than the original, and possibly has a fan, and could link me to a spec page for the stock power supply which would help me find a more powerful one. Also, possibly the form factor and connectors of the current power supply would be nice.

Basically I plan on changing the thermistors and other heating elements with more powerful ones so they can heat up a bit faster.

Changing the thermistors will not reduce heating times.

Changing the bed is not an option due to the in-built probe points.

Yes, it's possible to swap out the extruder heater for a 40W cartridge, but thit brings its own issues.

You don't need a replacement PSU, what you do need is to get more power from the components you have and that is very easily achieved by "tweaking" the PSU to provide slightly more voltage than at present.

However, be very careful and don't over-tweak.

There is a small potentiometer next to the output connectors on the PSU which controls the voltage. Measure the existing voltage at the PSU output - it should be between 11.6 and 12.4 Volts. Turn the pot to achieve a voltage not exceeding 13.2V. That will increase the heating power of the bed by almost 18% and the extruder by almost 10%.

Be extremely careful when adjusting the voltage. There are live mains sire in that area. And please read and understand my "signature" box.

I was just wondering if I could swap out any sort of heater on the bed, though I did find it is a PCB heater so the only option is more current. I was thinking that there has to be some sort of heating element/component 'that can be swapped, but maybe not. For example e3D makes a 12 and 24 volt version of the v6. And I thought it would be safer to get a new power supply than to modify the current one.

Re: Power supply

You could also insulate the underside of the bed with a cork tile.
