(possibly) new Prusa-User's "pre-buy"-questions

Hi All!

Let me briefly introduce:
I am currently using a Raise3D N2 which has a lot of issues and Raise3D is not willing to fix it or to exchange the machine.
As this is a >3k€ machine, I am not willing to accept that so it goes back for refund. A real pity, because it is not a bad thing at all.

So now I am looking for an alternative and came across the Prusa-Machines.
Since the MK3 is not yet available and I can't wait until March with an replacement,
I am considering the MK2s and upgrade it later. (I know, that will be more expensive, but anyway...;-)

I am quite curious to get some real MK2-users experience before I make my decision.
Questions I have in mind right now below - thanks a lot in advance for your knowledge!

- the advertisement says: "Hassle free PEI print surface - no glass, no glue, no ABS juice"
-> how is your printing experience? Are the advertised materials really all sticking to the PEI-surface?
(Supported materials – PLA, ABS, PET, HIPS, Flex PP, Ninjaflex, Laywood, Laybrick, Nylon, Bamboofill, Bronzefill, ASA, T-Glase, Carbon-fibers enhanced
filaments, Polycarbonates...)
- how well does the Multi-Material-Kit work in practice?
Can one print with dissolvable materials like PVA or BVOH with that?
An problems with the material switch at all?
- how well does the MK2s handle flexible materials (e.g. Polymaker's PolyFlex)?
Any extrusion problems here?

So far first questions;-)

Thanks & best regards,
Mat

Hi Mat

I have bought a MK2s kit last May and I got it end of June.
Till now I have printed several objects using following filaments: "eSUN PLA", "eSUN eLastic", "Gellay 505" and "Layfomm 40".

- the advertisement says: "Hassle free PEI print surface - no glass, no glue, no ABS juice"

Absolutely, at least with the materials that I have used so far.

Let say that I'm having the opposite problem, at least using the materials I've used so far.
Frequently it's difficult to detach the objects after printing, specially if the first layer has a big area.
At the beginning I've cleaned frequently the PEI-surface, but now I'm doing it only if I see that the surface is greasy.

I haven't the Multi-Material-Kit. But you can pause the printing, switching to a filament of different color and then resuming the printing, getting objects the different color layers.

Can one print with dissolvable materials like PVA or BVOH with that?

Yes, I have printed objects with "Gellay 505" and "Layfomm 40".

An problems with the material switch at all?

No, you have to choose the "Unload filament" and then the "Load filament" in the LCD menu.
Loading the filament, the program asks you if the filament is clean.
I'm answering "No" several times, till I'm sure not only that the extruder outputs the right color, but also that there are
no more rests of the old material inside the extruder. After that I had never problems.

I've got excellent results with "eSUN eLastic". Depending of the infill percentage, you get several flexibility levels, e.g using 10%, 5% or 0% for high flexibility.
Even with 0% infill I could print clean objects ca. 6 cm high with sides of 3 layers and thickness 0.15 mm 😀

Best regards,
Enrico

With that kind of money in the pocket, I suggest browsing a bit in the MMU subforum before you buy. You can get a MK2S and a very good dual head printer.
For single material printing, MK2S is an awesome printer.

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Actually I did already browse the MMU-section - and it does not make me believe the Prusa MK2s for dual or more filament printing...
Even if I know that normally just the people having problems do post in forums - the many other with no problems are just busy with printing;-)

Any suggestions regarding a very good dual head printer?
