PINDA probe out of the way?
Seems there is abit of talk regarding Pinda probe hitting the prints (mostly due to curling/warping)..
Has anyone looked into using a simple mechanical servo driven arm to raise the probe when not in use?
I have not received my MK2 yet so i would not know.. seems a bit tight?
A small design change and a few lines of code is all it takes..
Even a servo just tilting it a few degrees would lift it more than enough.. any thoughts?

I've been thinking of a way to protect the pinda.
I think using a servo may add too many unknowns since the pinda gets the Z offset which is in units of microns, so putting the pinda back exactly where it was during the last live z-adjust seems like it could be an issue.
My thought was to add a trip wire that would break / or short the thermister connection circuit that would stop the print without any modifications to the firmware code base. The trip wire could be a single stand of copper wire or copper foil that is integrated into the pinda protector.
I have not pursued this because the time needed to develop the implementation and so far I have only had the pinda with the protector hit once, by my objects I print are usually small.

Have been using servo and probe on my previous printers, ordbot and a delta and it has never been an issue with the precision there..
i think it would work.. given the probe are lowered at the same xy position as it is today (or modify fw)..

Why try to solve a problem which doesn't exist when the printer is built and set up correctly?

because, according to what i read it does have a tendency to catch on filament ones in a while.. 🙂
Curling does occur from time to time..

I'm with Peter. You are trying to solve the wrong problem. Instead of focusing on the probe you should be trying to find out why you have curling bad enough to catch the probe.

Does sound like a fun little project, would be interesting to see this done.
Personally, after roughly 3 months of printing with the MK2, i don't think i'll ever need it. Curling is well under control once i found "my favorite" filament and proper settings to print with.

i think a servo would be really bad for something that needs to be so precise, if i was doing something like this, id use something like a floppy drive motor actuator, and have the entire assembly be the pinda adjustment, only to have it lift out of the way when needed
