moving/outsourcing electronics
Hey guys,
I want to put my MK2 in an enclosure but without the electronics inside.
I would need some extensions for the cables.
Is there any documentation about the connector types?
How did you guys with an enclosure achieve moving the electronics?
Already asked that question in the facebook group but there was no answer.
Thanks in advance
Re: moving/outsourcing electronics
As someone that is looking to do the same thing, I would also be interested in what cables/connectors would be used to achieve this.
Re: moving/outsourcing electronics
I found some harnesses and info about connectors on the the manufacturer homepage of the Rambo board
https://ultimachine.com/collections/electronics?page=2
they sell the harness for ridiculous prices, and it doesn't work out for me since there are no extension cables with coonnectors on both sides...
think I will extend the cables on my own just by soldering

What kind of cables do you use for the extensions? Rather new to the world of soldering, but its something I plan on getting better at.
Re: moving/outsourcing electronics
Carl-Christian,
There really is no need to move the electronics. The only piece I placed outside the enclosure is the LCD and a different filament holder.

for the cabling of the endstops or motors for example it does not matter too much, just use some wire with about the same gauge, solder the extension, and place a heat shrink around the place the cables are joined
will have to look into which cable I need to use to extend the cable of the nozzle/hotend

but the case is intended to keep the heat inside and heat is not good for the longevity of the electronics

Unless you're running the inside above 50C or so, you should be OK. Most electronic components are easily good to 55C ambient, and many are rated to 70 or 85C. I enclosed mine in 1/2" rigid foam and even running all day with a 105C bed, it only gets to 35C inside at the top of the enclosure and a few degrees cooler at the bottom (18-20C room temp). The prusa printer farm runs 24/7 in a 40C room and doesn't seem to have any related issues, in fact the only reason they can produce good quality parts with ABS and no enclosure is probably the room temp.
