Re: MK3 coming!

I am hoping to donate my Prusa I3 MK2 to a local Makerspace , if they want it. Complete with uninstalled MK2S upgrade kit.

Why? My Ultimaker 2 + with manual levelling unchanged for over 18 months gives me perfect prints with many materials.

The Prusa I3 MK2 I have out grown, too small a print area, My CR10 is my printer of modification and choice. It gives prints as good at the Prusa I3 MK2 and is the printer I can mod more and is going to be better than the Prusa I3 MK3, when i have finished with it. Auto bed levelling and filament sensor already here and about to be installed. I also understand now and can program the Marlin Firmware for my own needs.

According to http://raspi.tv/2016/how-much-power-does-raspberry-pi3b-use-how-fast-is-it-compared-to-pi2b the pi3 uses something like 250mA when idle.
It needs up to 2.5A when you connect usb device to it and hdmi. You won’t on the printer I guess:-)

And of course you could not connect power to the einsy. But use a separate power supply for the pi. Or a buck converter from 24V to 5V.

We will have to wait and see. I just think you will not be limited to pi zero

The Pi will be powered from the Einsy header; and there is also the Pi's WiFi power to take into consideration.

The Einsy voltage regulator is an LM25011, capable of supplying 2 Amps maximum. This is the only 5V power source available (unless you intend feeding the Pi with 24V). I have seen a couple of Einsy schematics; one of which has an ATX input, but that also specifies a 12V rail (not 24V).

Re: MK3 coming!

You can choose not to connect 5 V from the einsy to the pi. As you do the soldering, you are in control.

A common ground should be enough. Then power the pi externally.

Then you may as well have that same as is currently available. Simply connect the Pi to the Einsy via USB with the Pi in a separate box with a separate PSU.

I think it would have been better if they just built in support in for current configurations, like being able to power on/off printer from OctoPrint, plugins to take advantage of new features etc. With that said, can see future possibilities of having a pi mounted on all Einsy. Can see Prusa having a large dashboard with all printers in their farm, feeding them data on print jobs, hardware status, maintenance schedule etc.

This has actually been confirmed by Prusa in the new longer interviews that they have the farm set up something like that, also there is no problem connecting an RPi3 (or "other boards") and the connections was both SPI, serial and power.

And I've noted something else in this interview: they might consider an MK3 update kit in the end! 😮

Re: MK3 coming!

I think the motivating factor to use the onboard PI UART is to possibly jump the baud rate up.

So in other news, looking at the pictures... anyone want to guess as to whether physical bounding box dimensions have changed? It looks like the Y size of the printer has to increase. Might be something to note for people with existing enclosures.

I am excited to hear the PR is working on getting a US warehouse. This should help with shipping charges.

And those of us who control our printers with OctoPrint use Pi 2's or 3's for a reason. Pi Zero. Really???

Why specifically, starting my search and preparation for hardware and setup of octoprint.

Seems like, from what little information we have avalible, the intention is to use the pi zero W ?

Even the demo boards seem to utilize these specifically ?

Is it possibly because of the wifi driver issues perhaps ?

Is there any conformation of missing utility features while printing via octoprint or wirelessly ?

Re: MK3 coming!

In Thomas new interview videos Josef also talks about using Igus bearings in the MK3. On twitter he says the problem with them is to get them running smoothly in every case.

I wonder if a not running smoothly bearing will constantly trigger the motor stall/layer skip warning or even lead to failed homing.

I would find it so cool, if there would be no need anymore to grease the bearings from time to time and also if there would be no more rattling balls anywhere.

Lets see what PR will come up with!

Also in the video Josef said there are many different signals or voltages available at this "aux" port: Not only for the Pi. So there is 24V for example...

Re: MK3 coming!

Before upgrading from MK2 -> MK2S, I used Igus and they are so quiet. I would love to see support for Igus or bronze sleeves on the MK3.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Could be wrong, but I thought he was joking there. Because he took a pause after saying that, and immediately after he clarified why they aren't offering an MK3 upgrade.

Re: MK3 coming!

Pointing out the obvious: Igus bearings not running smooth is a euphemism for "frame is misaligned".

The Y and Z axis are fairly easy fixes (although PR hasn't totally implemented them), but they need to think hard about the X axis.

I think he is hesitating because he didn't know what he could say.
We are still waiting on the MK2.5 upgrade kit pre-orders although they should have been available during the week of the announcement. I've tried to ask Josef about it on Twitter, no answer. I really think that they are trying to figure something out due to the community reaction.

Re: MK3 coming!

I wonder how much the waiting time will be due to backorders. I'm guessing prusa wont be able to deliver all pre-orders at once.
Hopefully there will be more information about the mk3 in the coming 2 to 3 weeks.

Specially curious about
- Waiting time, will it be the same as for the mk2s (10 weeks)
- When will the vouchers for the mk2.5s upgrade be send and will there be a time limit
- Is there also going to be a mk3 upgrade, there seem to be a demand for it
- What are the perks for pre-ordering

Re: MK3 coming!

Just received my Multimaterial upgrade and I can see the printed parts have been printed on the new surface. It is really weird that they have a texture on the bottom and not a nice smooth shiny surface. It's a bit granular like foam or super tiny expanded polystyrene.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Message to Joseph Prusa, please delete my account here and my membership of the forums. Thank you. I'm moving on. I need to for health reasons.

I'd love to believe what I read on the prusa home page about shipping dates on the MK3 and other stuff but I ordered over €400 of filament(all in stock) a week ago and they can't even give me a shipping date. I didn't want to cancel but they didn't seem particularly interested. The money is small for them but the perception is huge for me. Not what a first post should be either for sure..

Re: MK3 coming!

Can we talk MK3 again please?

Why don’t you have a chat with Prusa Research about your order of filaments?

I do not get the negativity of the last two posts.
