Kapton tape on E3DV6 heater block?
Is it necessary? I see people doing that on their heater block, but I do not see it very often on the V6 hotend. Why?
Re: Kapton tape on E3DV6 heater block?
The V6 uses a screw to mount the thermistor, so no Kapton tape is required.

Hi Stephen
Well worth putting some Kapton tape on the heater block. It will keep the temp up, stop the fan cooling it too quickly leading to Thermal Overrun shutdowns and will also keep the block clean. 😉
Re: Kapton tape on E3DV6 heater block?
I saw some heater block insulate tape from eBay. All I can tell is kapton tape with cotton. So my other question is do I just used the kapton tape or I have to wrap something with the kapton tape. I do have some 3mil kapton sheet for print bed. Can I use it? Thanks.

I just installed the sock from Filastruder. My limited testing so far tells me it is working very well. I did wrap the top of it with 1/4" kaput on to hold it tight.

I wouldnt bother with the socks. This is the sort of tape you want. self adhesive. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191837584035?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&var=490874253490&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Re: Kapton tape on E3DV6 heater block?
Last week I received the hot end upgrade and some of the socks.
It was a real pain to fit, mainly because of the short thermistor cables and positioning the connector on the wire which then goes to the RAMBo. To fit the socks, the thermistor cable has to be quite loose and the front fan and deflector have to be removed, but then they do fit very well.
For me the sock seems to be working very well, but the PID does need adjusting (I did this for the bed also). Now both hotend and bed temps remain within 0.5 degrees of the target and I am under the impression that I am saving a little bit of electricity, which makes me very happy 😀
When I get the opportunity, I will also fit the upgrade and sock on the Mk1 (already fitted with a V6).

Re: Kapton tape on E3DV6 heater block?
I had to use Kapton tape on a heater block, it insulated the ED3D hotend block from the Infra red differential sensor I used provided by David Crocker on one of my 3D printer Kit builds/updates. Kossel Mini. My first and still used kit built 3D delta printer. With many updates. Running now for 2 years and still gives me great 3d prints. I admit heavily modified. Now with 32bit electronics.
