I cannot remove the nozzle

I'm just going to start this by saying I'm pretty frustrated by this. about two weeks ago I was trying to clean the nozzle on my hotend after a bad jam occurred. There was no plastic in the nozzle, I preheated it to 200, and then went to remove it. However I had to use a LOT of force, and the nozzle head snapped off instead of unscrewing.

So, I bought an entirely new hotend, just got it this week, and when I went to calibrate the z height the nozzle started off way too close to the bed and jammed the hotend yet again. But this time I can't even pull the filament out. I can't pull the PTFE tubing out either. And when I went to unscrew the nozzle, I had to apply a huge amount of force, but I stopped trying after a certain amount of torque because now I'm afraid that this nozzle will snap as well.

I don't know what to do anymore. I ordered some needles that are long enough to go through the entire hotend, so if no one can give me any advice then I'm going to try sticking the needle up through the nozzle to break up the jam...wherever it is, and hopefully that will work.

But can someone please explain to me why the fuck I can't remove any of my nozzles? Does Prusa screw them in too tight? Should I just give it more force? I'm at a total loss as to how this happened to a brand new hotend. I never even got to print with it, just the z-height calibration.

Re: I cannot remove the nozzle

You need to heat it to much hotter than 200 to remove the nozzle. Do NOT use excessive force.

Heat to at least 275. 285 is better. HOLD the block. Unscrew the nozzle. Same for install. Must be very hot.

Re: I cannot remove the nozzle

Hi Tyler, nozzles should be removed while hot, if you need to remove them,

If I get a clog, I first try to push it out by heating the nozzle to a higher temperature than normal, say 240C+

loosen the extruder pressure screws so that they are not restricting the filament, and then push the filament into the extruder, using pliers... I use the needle nose pliers supplied with the printer...

In my case, this has cleared nearly all of the nozzle clogs.

if I need to remove the nozzle, I remove the cooling nozzle from the part cooler, heat the nozzle to 250C, then I use a spanner (17mm AF if I remember correctly) to hold the heat block still and a 7mm socket spanner to to unscrew the nozzle...

once I clear the issue, I reassemble using high temperature lubricant like Coppaslip, to stop the extruder nozzle sticking to the heat block when re installed.
again the heat block should be HOT 250C is good.

here is a youtube guide

Re: I cannot remove the nozzle

Maybe my temperatures are a bit low because I only use PLA, TPU and PETG...

if you use more exotic filaments you may need higher temperatures...

Re: I cannot remove the nozzle

Hey guys, I just wanted to post an update to this. The issue was not with the nozzle, and I was pre-heating it, the issue was that the socket wrench I was using to unscrew the nozzle was set to tighten and I wasn't noticing it. I'm just going to chalk it up to trying to do repairs way too late at night. Anyways, I reversed the direction of the wrench and the nozzle came out with ease. Thank you all for your input though, I appreciate you trying to help me out, but in the end it was my own ignorance :p

We've all fallen foul of trying to do something new when overtired. Kudos to you for posting up the resolution!
