How to reduce bed adhesion ? (PEI sticks way too much)

Hello,

I am a very new MK2S user (received it last friday), but have been using K8200 for the last 2,5 years now.
During the last few days I printed the whistle and adalinda examples from the SD card.
The prints really look great !!!
But getting them of the bed is something else, the whistle is quite small and came off the PEI bed with a some pursuation.
To avoid issues I decided to put some 3D lac on the bed when printing adalinda (like the advised glue stick for PET to reduce adhesion).
I added 3D lac, because I am used to this in combination with a glass / alu bed, and when the bed has cooled down, the print cracks loose and can be taken off with almost no effort.
However this was not the case in the adalinda test print.
I had a very hard time getting adalinda off with a scraper, especially to avoid damage to the PEI and adalinda's feet.
When I finally got adalinda off, one foot broke of, either due to the prying or due to the fall, as it came loose very abruptly the scraper ended up in my thumb (and me in the emergency room 🙁 ).
The 3D lac did not behave as I expected on the PEI as it normally did on glass, because it did not crack loose during the cooling down process.

What can I do to make the print come off the bed easily ?
And preferably without damage to the print, PEI and of course myself 😉 .

Thanks in advance,

Robin

Hi!

Here's what I'd do:

1. Always wait for the bed and the print to cool down to room temperature before taking it off.

2. Try using a string of dental floss to remove the print. Afterwards, you will have to thoroughly clean the print bead with isopropyl, because the wax from the floss likes to linger on, messing up your next print or two.

3. Try using "Live adjust Z" option to increase the distance from the heat-bead, if it's currently set too low. This will less squish the filament, decreasing the contact area, but be careful, since if set too high, the prints will be rough on the bottom.

4. Try lowering the bed temperature.

Good luck.

There's another good trick I discovered recently: when the heat bed cools down, pour some isopropyl alcohol on the bed near the object, and let it sit for a few minutes. The capillary force will draw the alcohol underneath the object, so it should come off easily.

if you print with pla, you can use an over-saturated salt solution, whith which you wipe your pei sheet before printing (need to let it dry before printing starts).
look at this thread about it.

For flexible filament I use a light dusting of talc. Not tried it with pla as I have the opposite issue where I get warping occasionally.
