Help... The fishscale pattern is back

Well, that didn't last long. Yesterday I replaced my PEI sheet and got my first ever perfect first layer print.

Today, I printed a second large item and the weird ripples in the print were back. I printed a single layer flat surface to see if the Z adjust had drifted out and noticed the lines it is drawing when moving diagonal are not straight. They have tiny ripples in them. Also, the bed seems quite noisy when it moves but nothing seems loose. Does anyone have any clues what this could be please?

I suspect your live Z is too big a negative number... try reducing the live z value so there is less squish...

you may get different responses dependent on PINDA height, during the heat up phase,

use the LCD Menu to raise the Extruder to say 150mm before you start the bed heating,

it seems that the PINDA sensitivity changes with temperature...

so if you always start well bove the heated bed, you will reduce the liklihood of this issue.

this may be the reason why you are having differing results...

Ok thanks. I will try those suggestions. It is a frustrating printer for something that is supposed to be so easy to use.

I can confirm that Z offset is the key issue here. Now mostly corrected but some parts of the bed still show the pattern so clearly it is not 100% level even taking calibration into effect.

I agree that you are too close to the bed when printing and the ultra thin plastic is deforming. Try doing the normal calibration, but then print out a big square and move the Z over time plus and minus from your original calibration.

At a smaller negative number (further from the board) you will see the material begin to not touch each other. At the other end when you go with a larger negative number (closer to the board) you will see the plastic begin to curl, like in your picture. Find where the plastic just begins to touch each other and add a another .010 to .025 and that should be a really good place to start your prints.

Good Luck

I suggest with 3D printer problems go over to the Simpllfy3d site, many issues answered.
