Heated bed causing printer to restart

I've run into my first hitch with my mk2 after assembling it in July. Printer stopped mid print without any error message. I attempted to restart the print, only to have the screen go blank and the printer restart. Everything works perfectly except when I attempt to heat the bed, the screen goes blank and the printer restarts again.

After some research I identified the problem to be that the bed or one of its connectors was shorting, causing the printer to restart when power is sent to the bed. I disconnected the heat bed and made sure the connector on the RAMBO was intact. There was no physical damage or debris. I did an additional check by attaching the nozzle heater to the heat bed connector on the RAMBO and heating the 'bed'. The nozzle heated up correctly. This told me that there is not an issue with the RAMBO heatbed connector.

I reconnected and tried preheating again and it worked. I ran a three hour print without any further issues. on my next print, the same error occured again. Again the printer is restarting whenever the bed is heated.

I disconnected everything and separated the heat bed wires and tried again without effect. the solder points on the bed itself look clean. I cant think of any issue except that there is a short withing the bed.

For anyone who finished reading the long description, I have the following questions to make sure I'm looking at this correctly:
1. Does my assumption that the bed is shorting make sense?
2. Does my assumption that there is no issue with the RAMBO connector make sense?
3. Is it possible that there is a short within the bed itself?
4. Does anyone have a theory as to why it would work for a 3-hour print and then revert back to the same problem?

Any suggestions would be welcome, thanks in advance!

Re: Heated bed causing printer to restart

Well after chopping and resoldering all of the connections to the heated bed and testing the bed with a multimeter, the same issue began happening when attempting to heat the nozzle!

I was baffled for a while until i took apart the PSU to find this.

I'm assuming I'm going to have to buy a new PSU. The fact that this happened after only 4 months is pretty upsetting.

Any explanations on how this could have happened or has this happened to anyone else?

RE: Heated bed causing printer to restart

I had a similar issue, but note I am using a clone MK52 12V heat bed with my Prusa Mk2s printer.  What I found on the clone heat bed was that the back side of the heat bed tab where the power cables connect the enamel had worn off the back side through to the copper cladding causing a direct short.  I don't know what the construction of the Prusa heat bed actually looks like, but I solved the problem by putting insulators over the heat bed power cable screws such that the screws nuts didn't come in contact with the copper cladding.
