Filament stuck after few layers
Hi,
I receive and build yesterday my MK2 printer. Now it seems everything is well calibrated, then I choose to print the whistle and after a few layers I hear a sound in the extruder motor and saw that no filament was going out from the hot end. This was the second time I get this.
Don't know if I need to calibrate the extruder or If I have to tighten the bolts with springs in the extruder a little bit more or I have to loose them.
Any help is well appreciated.
Re: Filament stuck after few layers
Does it skip steps? (Noise every 0.5-1 second)
Then either:
- your nozzle is probably to close to the build plate, making the pressure to high inside the nozzle, or
- its clogged, which doesn't make sense since you've just started to print with it... or
- your feeder gear, mounted on the motor driveshaft is not aligned properly, causing it to not gripping the filament or
- your tension screws are not set correctly, according to the manual the springs should be 13mm when compressed.
Lets start check those things?

Also ensure that the extruder fan is working and blowing in the right direction.

Also check and make sure that your filament drive gear, the one that contacts the filament is not lose and the gear is aligned with the tube. On the unit I built the used the supplied allen wrench, which did not fit the set screw perfectly, and did not get it tight. So it walked.
Re: Filament stuck after few layers
Good point Peter. Label on fan should be against hotend heatsink. And attached fan terminal be plugged it with red wire thermistor side of socket.
Why make all other sockets and plugs one way except this important one?

Ooops and dohh. I may have mixed up extruder cooling fan with object cooling fan, looking back at my comment. Sorry. Still say they should have made it a one way plug and socket.
