filament powder on motors

My extruder keeps randomly stopping mid print and its really annoying. I have no idea if its related, but a powder the same color as the filament im using keeps getting all over the motor pushing filament in. Is it getting too slick and not able to push filament through? whats the problem? how do i fix it?

Re: filament powder on motors

Sounds as though the filament pulley is grinding the filament.

Several causes of this including (but not limited to):

Filament tangled on spool
Extruder blocked
Bad slicing

Check the spool, clean the extruder (use the ultimaker "atomic method" and print the prusa logo from the sd card.

might also be related to cheap filament, with uneven diameter.

Or filament tension too tight.

that could be a good reason, like driving a car with semi-tightened hand brake  .

Okay, it turned out that my filament spool was too tight in the holder and it was causing resistance against the motors, thanks for the help. I probably wouldnt have realized that it was the filament holder because i normally do it so loosely. Thanks for your time 🙂
