Extruder calibration?
How do you calibrate the extruder? I've searched on the forum but couldn't find the answer.
I had a mendel90 before this little beauty and it was all done in Arduino.
Is there a simple method for the changing the extruder e steps?
I did try following some instructions on YouTube by Thomas Sanladerer, but when I entered the commands in S3D it done nothing. The printer screen flashed and showed me the command, but changed nothing.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Here you go: http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/mk-2-extrusion-problems-t1600.html#p12960
To set the extruder steps:
M92 Enumber_of_steps_per_mm

Re: Extruder calibration?
Thanks for the reply.
What would I type to find the current value?
After the M92 command, how should it look? M92...
I've never really used M commands and want to get it right. When I tried it last time it didn't seem to change the value or save it. It showed the M command on the printer screen but wouldn't change the values.
Thanks
Re: Extruder calibration?
Default value is 161.3.
M92 E{required_number_of_steps_per_mm}
Note the space between M92 and E, but no space between E and value.

Re: Extruder calibration?
You can dump the current values using M501. That said, M92 is only temporary.
Right now M500 does not seem to be working to save the value for me. Any suggestions? I think I remember reading the EEPROM was locked or something? I'd rather fix the E steps rather than over extrude in the slicer.

You can add the E Steps to the start GCode in the slicer, but remember that all filaments can require different values hence the "Flow Tweak" parameter in the filament settings.

Re: Extruder calibration?
Hi Peter - yes, I get each filament requires some massaging. However, right now I'm 16mm short of 100mm when extruding, so I would like to permanently get closer to 100 and use 5%-10% in the slicer rather than 20-30%.
Although I can most likely remember to add the extra gcode, my son occasionally uses the printer and I doubt he will include the extra gcode as required all the time. I'm trying to "bullet proof" the printer as well.
Thoughts on M500?

Re: Extruder calibration?
I've been adding it to my start code and works ok for me.

Thank you Peter - your mind is a steel trap. I've been looking for that thread for 3 days. I don't know why I couldn't find it. I knew I read it at some point. I guess I'll update all my profiles in the mean time.

😀 And WTF is a "steel trap"? Don't know if it's a compliment or otherwise...
As it happens, I have been on chemotherapy for almost 10 years for an auto-immune disease which has (amongst other things) destroyed my short-term memory.
It seems that I have posted on most threads in this forum, so I just do a quick search of my posts only. I think that post was on page 2 or 3 of my search results at the time...
