Cold end fan (30mm) kinda not working

Heyo
All of a sudden I noticed my little fan stopped working. This caused a clog but it was ABS and not too bad so acetone bath fixed it the nozzle/heatbreak.
However, as I was putting it together the fan was working again, and when I was going to load filament it didn't work..
I'm not sure if it's the auto-part that's messed up or what else. I tried "jerking" the cables while hotend was 50+c but it doesn't seem like there's anything loose.
There's no gcode way to enable it, right?
Does anyone have any clues what it might be? I'll probably end up just hard-wiring the fan instead as I power off the printer when I'm not using it anyways.

Thanks // Martin

Re: Cold end fan (30mm) kinda not working

A few weeks ago, I discovered that my part fan was working intermittently. Then a few days afterward the part fan died completely. I discovered that the zip tie at the back of the X-carriage had been digging into the wiring for the part fan and had severed one of the wires for my part fan. When the part fan was working intermittently, it was because the severed ends of the wires were close enough that they were touching most of the time. When the part fan died completely, it was because the severed ends of the wires had separated too far to ever touch.

So if your fan is working intermittently, it could be because the zip tie on the X-carriage has severed the wiring for your fan, but the severed ends are close enough to be touching most of the time.

The same thing happened to my printer, I made sure that the fan wires were not touching the tie strap when reinstalling the wires.
The tie had cut through the little 26ga. after about one hundred hours of printing.

Re: Cold end fan (30mm) kinda not working

should be one point to consider for the regular inspection checklist (every 3 month, or after 100 prints)

➡ i think during the next "inspection" of my printer i will redo the complete cable harness and use some heat shrinkable tubings at the weakest links.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...
