Care and feeding of filament spools

Can anyone point me to information about how to best maintain/store partially used spools of filament?

For example, does it need to be stored in a sealed container? Is moisture/humidity (normal household) a problem? Does age matter? What causes it to get brittle? Are the answers different for different types?

Re: Care and feeding of filament spools

Hi,

It'll depend on the type of material.
But for best results keep them at least in a sealed container, better with some form of dessicants.
PLA are not that badly affected by moisture, petg a bit more, nylons horribly.
I've heard that < 30-40 of humidity should be ok for most filaments (the lower the better thought).

Better to keep them relatively cool too and not in direct sunlight as uvs are not good friends generaly.
Age can also cause degradation but 1-2 years should be ok if stored properly.

Hope that helps!
