Cant remove Thermistor.

Hi guys,

I ran into a problem just last week where an overnight print came off the bed and wrapped around the extruder.
in the process of removing it, the little blue wires came off with the blob that was left, neatly severing the thermistor cabling.
I contacted Prusa support with the pictures ( I only had the printer 2 weeks at most at this time ) and they advised me to purchase a replacement thermistor cartridge. The thing arrived today and when I go to remove the old one, its firmly stuck in the block.

Its in so tight, that the little 1.5mm Allen holding it in, wouldn't budge and even snapped my Allen keys straight off.
Do you have any tips or tricks that you can throw my way to help get this thing out ?
The printer came assembled so i have very limited tooling that came in the box but i'm sure i can find what i need in town.
Its a great printer when its working, but not so keen on this expensive paper weight !!

Thanks !

Re: Cant remove Thermistor.

Try using a heat gun to heat the extruder heat block to soften the filament that is probably glued the set screw in place.

Careful, the block will be hot, but that should allow the set screw to be loosened, and the thermistor removed.

Thanks for the advice there, but unfortunately it didn't come apart at all, even after putting a soldering iron close to the point to help warm up the area couldnt get the tiny little screw to move.

So it looks like i'm going to need a new hot end assembly (preferably with the thermistor included !!! lol )

As this was an assembled printer and not a kit form one, what do you recommend as the simplest to install replacement hot end ?

Thanks again.

Re: Cant remove Thermistor.

This happened to me last night, and it has been a pain to disassemble the E-axis so that I could get to the hot end and clean it off. That too was a great pain, and I had to use a soldering iron to cut through the big parts (it stank!) Finally got it all clean and now I can't remove the thermistor. But it doesn't even look like there is a set screw in mine...

Anyway Mark, I know it's been almost a year since you posted this, but nice to know I'm not alone. I hope you got your part and are still printing things.

Re: Cant remove Thermistor.

you should only need a new heat block and thermistor set, not a complete hot end!
